1. Great Read Alouds
Are you looking for a good novel to read aloud to your class?
Check out the Reading Australia website. They have units of work for great Australian literature available. Here is a link to the primary recommendations: http://readingaustralia.com.au/Primary.aspx
2. History books
We have a handful of books on approval at the moment that would fit in with the Year 4,5,6 History Curriculum. Could you please give me some feedback about whether or not you think these resources would be suitable for your classes?
Using the DECD GuidelinesfortheImplement of the Australian Curriculum I have drafted what a week could look like using our timetable. The English, Maths and Science times have been mandated, but the others are recommended. The designers of the Australian Curriculum have used these times as a guide when planning the curriculum. Feel free to cut and paste, or alter to suit your needs.
The year 6 classes have signed up to be involved in the global project titled ‘A Week in the Life’. Students will join others from the United States, Thailand, Nepal, Bulgaria and New Zealand to connect, communicate and explore environmental issues of local and global significance.
The essential questions we aim to answer:
1. What are the similarities and differences among children around the world?
2. How can we connect with each other through our commonalities?
3. How does your geography, history and lifestyle of where you live impact your topic?
4. What are essential solutions to researched global issues and how can we share these?
Students will communicate through Edmodo – an educational ‘Facebook’ type environment, and create artifacts in teams with students around the world.
The first part of this project is the Handshake phase where students introduce themselves to each other.
I will look forward to sharing some of the learning throughout this project.
